What Is The Difference Between Philips Hue And Wiz?

Have you ever sit and browse through products and realize that you should of purchase this rather than the expensive option? That’s how I feel comparing the Philips Hue to the Wiz. The Wiz Connect extends from the Philips company, however; it is a more affordable bulb.

At first glance, you’ll notice some similarities of both smart bulbs however, the primary difference between the Philips Hue and the Wiz is: the Wiz do not need a hub, it uses Wi-Fi and the Wiz app. As I mentioned above, the price tag is a major distinction between both.

The choice between buying a smart switch or a smart bulb has been the hottest topic. Which is the best? What should I use? No matter which smart bulb or switch you use, the bottom line is they both allow you to control your lighting. If you are looking for more information on this topic, check out this post.

Philips Hue and Wiz: What Is the Difference?

Let’s start with the Wiz. This bulb doesn’t require a hub and uses Wi-Fi; this means it you can not control a Wiz bulb with the Philips Hue Hub. However, they work with a variety of other apps and services.

The Wiz Wi-Fi Set-up

Connecting to the Wiz app is super easy: the bulb uses Bluetooth to find the bulb and Wi-Fi to control its features. Moreover, you can integrate your WiZ bulb with many smart home setups these include Google Home, Alexa, IFTTT, Smart Things, etc. It is not compatible with Apple Home Kit.

The Wiz App

Coming from the same company as Philip Hue, you would expect the Wiz has a similar app layout, reliability, and user-friendliness as the Hue. But this is not the case. Also, one of my biggest problems with the WIZ is you can’t connect to Apple Home.

Integration between third-person apps may not be a big issue for some, but for others, it is a disadvantage. For instance, if you have the entire Apple Home set-up, you can not buy the Wiz because you’ll want that integration with Siri to communicate with your smart bulb.

Why Choose The Wiz Over The Philps Hue?

The Wiz is perfect for people who are now starting in smart lighting and want an inexpensive way to test the overall experience. It also gives you peace of mind knowing that you are spending your money on a brand-name product rather than an “unknown” bulb from places like Amazon.

The Philips Hue Difference

The Philips Hue is an absolutely stunning ecosystem of app, bulbs, and hubs. They are a giant in the smart home niche and offer basically everything from 60 million color changes, voice controls, dimmers, timers, alarms, just the finest in the business.

Now, there are few differences between the bulb, putting the price tag aside, it is best to explore them before buying either product. The best factor is Philips Hue’s use of its hub or bridge.

The Philips Hue Hub

While the hub comes with its additional expensive and usability, it is reliable. This means if you are experiencing Wi-Fi router issues, it will not affect your Hue. How the Philips Hub works: the bridge connects to your router and each Hue bulb or accessories are controlled by the hub thus, less pressuring your router for seamless use and a better experience.

Therefore, I recommend you purchase the Philips Hue for the Hub advantages over the Wiz if the price is not an issue.

The Philips Hue App

The Philips Hue apps work like a charm. It is easy to navigate and beginners friendly also if you are new to the brand there are many resources available online to help you get started.

Furthermore, there are so many features and even experimental options to personalize your experiences. One of my favorite is the flicking of lights to mimic candles and fireplace lighting systems. There are a lot of other things you can do with the app and bulb, and they work flawlessly.

Can WiZ and hue work together?

Although Wiz is part of the Philips Hue, it cannot work with the Philips Hue ecosystem. The separation makes sense because of the price difference. For instance, if it was easy for the Wiz to work with the Hue, what’s stopping homeowners from buying the cheaper Wiz and connecting it to the Hub.

To recap, if you are new to smart bulbs and want an affordable option, the Wiz is your best bet. It is part of the Philip Hue company, and it’s a smart choice to buy.

But if you are looking to upgrade and have established your love for smart bulbs, then it is vital to have the Philip Hue ecosystem in your home.
